Country home / New Zealand

Matakana Hills

A home in harmony with its landscape.

White sofas and timber coffee table beneath a vaulted ceiling in Matakana Hills.
Soft white seating and warm timber give this generous room an easy intimacy, with space to enjoy the countryside beyond.

The story

Familiar pieces, natural textures and a beautiful rural outlook, brought together with care.

DesignShanly Simpson

Moving into a new home does not mean leaving every treasured piece behind. For this Matakana Hills property, Shanly helped the owners decide which furniture to bring from overseas, considering its proportions and how it would work in the new rooms.

Careful planning gave those pieces a natural place in the home. Handmade New Zealand wool rugs, throws, accessories and faux orchids add softness, while considered furniture placement allows the rooms to flow comfortably.

The home’s rural setting gives context to the natural textures and relaxed rooms within.

Space for the landscape.

White seating, timber and woven textures sit easily beneath the vaulted ceilings. Through the windows and out to the covered terrace, the countryside remains part of the experience.
